Ex-CIA whistle-blower pursuing ‘information war’ against US govt.: US attorney

Schulte, who was jailed after allegedly giving WikiLeaks CIA documents, intended to launch an “information war”  against the US government,  according to United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Geoffrey S. Berman. Schulte, who has been in jail since December 2017, had filed a motion requesting an end the harsh special administrative measures (SAMs) slapped against him in jail including solitary confinement. In response, Berman filed a memorandum of law on Monday explaining to the judge why Schulte needed to be kept under tight measures. In the memorandum, Berman claimed Schulte had smuggled a cellphone into his jail cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan to engage “ in an escalating series of willful and illegal acts that culminated in his declaration of an 'information war' against the United States.” Schulte "violated his bail conditions by accessing the internet ... illegally provided classified information to his family ... enlisted his family and other inmates to help him brazenly violate a protective order ... and even after the court admonished him, he doubled down and did it again," Berman wrote in a 28-page court document submitted to the court. Berman claimed that in a journal found in Schulte's jail cell in the prison, the ex-CIA man had devised a plan "to breakup diplomatic relationships, close embassies, and US occupation around the world & finally reverse US jingoism.” Schulte's plan was to demand “$50 billion in restitution” and the prosecution of “the criminals who lied to the judge and presented this BS case,” Berman claimed, warning that if the restrictions were lifted, Schulte would resume his “information war” on the US government.  Schulte, who worked in the CIA’s Engineering Development Group supposedly tasked with designing computer codes to spy on foreign adversaries, was arrested in August 2017.  Schulte was suspected to be behind the "Vault 7" leaks regarding CIA’s use of hacking tools to spy on people through their “smart” phones and other appliances.
