US Delegation Meets Haftar to Discuss Libyan Crisis

The delegation included Deputy National Security Advisor for Middle East and North Africa Affairs Victoria Coates, Ambassador to Libya Richard Norland and First Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Affairs at the US Department of Energy Matthew Zeiss, the ministry said in a statement posted on its website on Tuesday. Since April 4, Haftar's forces have been waging a faltering assault to take over Tripoli, the seat of the internationally recognized government of national reconciliation. The attack thwarted efforts by the United Nations to hold a conference of dialogue among Libyans, as part of a UN road map to address the conflict that has been going on since 2011. On December 20, Berlin will host an international conference on Libya with the participation of regional and international capitals involved in the crisis in the oil-rich country.
